McDonald is a successful business
Negatives:
- · Unhealthy, McDonald’s attempts to display in their Nutrition Guide which is visually appealing but has fairly unrelated facts that Hamburgers, sodas, fries, etc. are beneficial and nutritious in any part of diet. What they don’t make clear is that a diet in high fat, sugar, sodium, and low in fibre and vitamins which is basically a McDonald’s meal can connect to numerous cancers, especially heart disease. This is a medical fact not a theory.
- · They exploit children, nearly all advertisements are targeted to children, thousands of young children think of burgers and fries when they see McDonalds.
- · McDonalds are linked to many sweatshops to create the toys given away in happy meals, usually located in Asian countries like China and Vietnam. Located in Da Nang City, Vietnam, Keyhinge Toy Factory provides about 1, 000 jobs 90% of them are young women between the ages of 17 to 20. Overtime is necessary and shifts are 9 to 10 hours a day seven days a week. Wages average within six cents and eight cents per hour. After a 70 hour week some of the young women earn a salary of only $4.20. They work in unsafe working conditions, in late February 200 women fell ill and 25 collapsed and 3 were hospitalized due to acetone. This chemical solvent can cause dizziness, damage to the liver and kidneys, chronic eye, nose, throat and skin irritation as well as unconsciousness.
- · In Hong Kong children as young as 14 work up to 16 hours a day for around $3.
- · Increases obesity rate.
