McDonald is the world’s largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants. McDonalds serves around 68 million customers daily.

McDonald’s primarily sells hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken, french fries, breakfast foods, soft drinks, shakes, and desserts. The company has expanded its menu to salads, wraps, smoothies, and fruit. McDonalds sells toys designed from Disney characters or other companies that sponsored McDonalds.

WHO, WHY, & HOW:

The McDonalds brothers (Richard and Maurice) started off as a barbeque restaurant in San Bernardino, CA in 1940, but soon realized that hamburgers were their real money maker. On the October of 1948, they closed down the barbeque restaurants and on December 12, 1948, it opened the world’s first McDonalds and due to their cheap prices and volume of their burgers, they quickly became popular and worldwide.

WHEN:

1937:

Richard and Maurice McDonald opened their first restaurant in Arcadia, CA. It is called the Airdrome.

1940:

The McDonald brothers opened a barbeque restaurant in San Bernardino, CA in 1940.

October 1948:

The brothers closed the barbeque restaurants.

December 12. 1948:

The world’s first McDonalds was opened and focused on speed, volume, and price.

1954:

Ray A. Kroc signed a deal with the McDonald brothers to become a franchising agent and opened his first McDonald’s in Des Plaines, Illinois.

1961:

Kroc bought the McDonald’s operation from the brothers for 2.7 million dollars.
